DeVry (Tinley Park) Lab Policies

Devry University labs are to be used for educational purposes in a manner consistent with public trust.

• Children - Are not allowed in the lab under any circumstances.

• Lab Staff - Student assistants can give students basic help in use of major software packages, and assist in resolving hardware issues with lab computers. They DO NOT act as tutors in assisting students with homework, and ARE NOT expected to know how to run specific courseware assigned by an instructor. For these questions, please see the instructor, dean, or visit ASC (room 1122).

• Laptops/Wireless - All laptops brought on campus should be registered in room 1136 (counter), prior to use. Disconnecting lab systems to connect laptop computers is prohibited. Connecting laptops to unused jacks other than those specifically designated for laptops (laptop ready rooms, open desk areas in labs) is not allowed.

• Software - No illegally copied software may be used on lab equipment. Students may not install programs, uninstall programs, or download software on the lab computers other than in the Experimental Lab/Network.   Installing any game server or  Peer-to- Peer file sharing software is also prohibited.

• External Devices/Disconnecting Cables - Tampering with or removing cables connected to equipment or relocating computer equipment is prohibited. Please do not connect external equipment to lab computers (other than headphone/flash drives).

• Food/Drinks - Please help keep the lab a neat and clean facility for all users. No food, or drinks are allowed in labs. Please put all food and drinks away before entering the lab. Lab staff may ask you to leave the lab if you enter with food or drink.

• Noise - Please be courteous, and work without disturbing others. Please keep conversation and other noise to a minimum. No disruptive or destructive behavior will be tolerated.

• Cell Phones - The use of cell phones within the labs is prohibited. Please turn off your cell phone before entering the lab.

• Games - Playing games within the labs for a purpose other than academic is prohibited.

• Music - Playing a radio within the lab is prohibited. Please use headphones to listen to music. Headphones can be checked out at the counter in room 1136 with student ID.

• Pornography - Activities such as viewing pornography that creates a hostile and/or intimidating environment for others is prohibited. YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE IMMEDIATELY.

• Holding Space - When you leave, please take your belongings with you. "Holding" a computer by leaving personal articles at the computer is prohibited.

Lab staff has the right to monitor logon sessions using remote control software, when they suspect that violations to the policy have occurred.

Alert student assistants to any problems you are experiencing with computers or printers - we can't fix it if we don't know about it.
